Interview: professional portrait of Véronique, Galimard’s longest-serving guide

Welcome to Galimard! We would like to introduce you to one of our team members: Véronique

The most tenured guide of our legendary perfume house is Véronique, a véritable jack of all trades. She welcomes, teaches, and guides clients from across the world through the Galimard factory with a professionalism and humor that leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets – in five different languages, including Chinese! Let’s see what she has to say:

Hi Véronique, what year did you start working at Galimard?

I started with Galimard in 1983!

What is it about Galimard that made you want to cultivate your career with us?

Originally from Die (in the Drôme region), I arrived in Grasse with no experience in the world of perfumery. Luckily, at Galimard I met the director (M.Jean-Pierre Roux), who gave me a shot. I was ready to work hard and prove worthy of the opportunity I was given. This feeling has never left me and has anchored me deeply into the heart of the Maison Galimard.

Do you have some memories to share about your career at Galimard?

The first unforgettable experience I have at Galimard was linked with this chance I was given at the beginning. I was so eager to prove I was capable of handling a full tour group on my own, and Mr Roux invited me to guide a major group of Americans – it turned out to be a great success ! I felt like I was made for this role.

You can guide groups in Chinese, that is incredible ! Why did you choose to learn this language?

When Chinese clientele began arriving in our region, with a growing interest in la Maison Galimard and the quality of our products, I quickly became frustrated by the language barrier : twenty years ago, the only way Chinese tourists could communicate was via a translator. So I decided to learn the text of the visit in Chinese, as well as the vocabulary linked to perfumery. I take client satisfaction very seriously and want to ensure every guest is well taken care of, no matter what language they speak!

Do you remember the first perfume from Galimard that you wore? Does it still exist?

I loved two very different perfumes that, unfortunately, are no longer available: À contre-jour, which I appreciated for its freshness and delicacy, and Galimar, which I liked to wear in winter or for evenings out because I found its oriental notes very elegant.

Which perfume(s) do you wear today?

I really like Plumetis in the summer because it’s light and delightfully feminine, and in winter I wear Oud Vanille, which has warm, enveloping notes that I enjoy.

I find it very original and especially suited to a younger clientele, but personally, I don’t wear it.

What kind of perfume would you like our perfumer to create for the next season?

I’d love to see a spicy oriental fragrance in our collection again, something like my much-missed Galimar.

Which perfume do you enjoy giving as a gift (for him and her)?

I like to give what I love myself: Plumetis or Printemps Étoilé for a woman, and Quai des Brumes for a man.

If you could create your own perfume, what notes would you choose?

Patchouli, musk, amber, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver… Honestly, it’s the base notes that I love most in perfumes. 😉

If you had to choose a gift for someone who doesn’t wear perfume, what would you pick from the boutique?

My go-to gift, for both women and men, is the body scrub. I love it, and everyone I’ve given it to always asks for more! Other products I often gift: Elixir Lumière to pamper the skin and the 1747 shower gel because it suits everyone.

What’s your favorite home fragrance?

Bois & Tonka in autumn and winter, and Marine in summer.

Let’s talk beauty routine: what cosmetic products from Galimard do you use?

I used to use the Caviar line, which no longer exists, but now I’m a big fan of the Lumière line, especially the cream, and, as you’ve probably gathered, the body scrub, which leaves the skin incredibly soft.

Galimard’s product line is constantly evolving—are there any products you miss?

The sweet almond oil and the children’s products, like the animal-shaped soaps.

Over the years, you've given factory tours to hundreds of people—do you have a memorable or funny story to share?

I’ve had many incredible moments, but one that really stands out happened about 30 years ago. I was giving a tour of the factory to the Pointer Sisters, the American trio. They were so friendly and cheerful, really interested in my explanations and in Galimard’s history. When we got to the shop, they were delighted by our perfumes. And when they came to pick up their purchases, one of them handed me an invitation to their upcoming concert at the Sporting Club in Monaco! They even invited me backstage after the show to chat for a bit. An unforgettable moment among so many others!

Wow, what a memory! Thank you, Véronique, for sharing your thoughts and stories—wishing you all the best!
