HÉRITAGE – An Ode to Grasse

As we saw with Ruby Chéri, beautiful stories often begin with a meaningful encounter. This spring of 2025, our Maison de Parfums embarks on a new chapter with the launch of HÉRITAGE—a fragrant tribute to the city where perfumery was born and flourished.

At its heart, HÉRITAGE is also a story of encounters, and we invite you to discover this one.

It begins, of course, with flowers—three emblematic blooms from Grasse and its surroundings: rose, jasmine, and tuberose. Each has played a vital role in shaping fine perfumery and spreading Grasse’s renown worldwide. But these are not just any flowers; the rose and jasmine in Héritage are the prized Centifolia and Grandiflorum varieties, treasured by perfumers for their exceptional scent.

Then, there is the story of a young Japanese perfumer who made Grasse his home, drawn by his deep passion for fragrance. Yusuke Masuda’s journey with Maison Galimard began with an internship that led to further training. For the past two years, his talent has flourished, bringing to life compositions as captivating as they are original.

We first glimpsed Yusuke’s inspirations in Ruby Chéri. For his three new modern, unisex creations, he was guided by two deeply personal emotions: a longing for his homeland and a profound gratitude for Grasse, the place that welcomed him so warmly.

J” for Jasmine : A cherished emblem of Grasse, jasmine is celebrated each August with a joyous three-day festival. The Grandiflorum jasmine, gathered at dawn to preserve the full intensity of its scent, is beloved by perfumers for its versatility. In J, Yusuke tempers its richness with the warmth of immortelle and the brightness of mandarin, while oat and white musk add softness in the base. A whisper of fig in the opening subtly recalls the cedarwood and olive notes in the drydown, allowing jasmine to bloom with effortless elegance.

R” for Rose : Naturally, this is the May rose—Centifolia—the “queen of flowers,” a Grasse icon celebrated every spring at Exporose. Its timeless scent takes on an unexpected twist here: star anise, petitgrain, and mint create a fresh, luminous opening, while vetiver and Guaiac wood in the base ground the fragrance with a subtle earthiness, evoking the very soil that nourishes the flower. And for a daring touch? Yusuke infused the composition with matcha, a nod to his Japanese roots.

T” for Tuberose : Less well-known than the other two florals, tuberose is nonetheless unforgettable—its opulent scent leaves a lasting impression. A bold and powerful note, it presents a challenge to master, but Yusuke sought to make it more approachable. In T, tuberose is softened with warm spices—ginger, cardamom, and clove—giving it depth and character. Amber and sandalwood provide a gentle foundation, lending an understated elegance that may even win over those who typically find tuberose too heady.

With its refined formulas and minimalist names—J, R, and T—Yusuke embraces sophistication through simplicity. He has crafted HÉRITAGE much like a haiku: stripping away excess to reveal pure essence.

For a more personal touch, you can layer two fragrances to create your own olfactory signature. Jasmine’s soft sensuality blends harmoniously with rose for a delicate floral bouquet, while tuberose—bolder and more daring—adds contrast and intrigue when paired with either.

We can’t wait for you to experience this exquisite collection, a tribute to our heritage and an ode to the art of perfumery.
